The Congress workers expressed their anger on what they call ‘gold scam’ in the Kedarnath temple by burning the effigy of the State government on Thursday. They alleged that the sentiments of the Hindus have been offended by the scam in which brass was used instead of the gold in the name of covering the walls of the ancient temple with gold. The Congress workers led by the president of the Mahanagar unit of the party Jasvinder Singh Gogi assembled in the party office and burned the effigy of the government as a mark of their protest.
Speaking on the occasion Gogi said that the work of covering the walls of the temple which is the centre of faith of crores of Hindus with what was claimed to be gold was opposed by many Teerth Purohits as it amounted to changing the ancient look of the temple. He said that some Purohits have now noticed that the shine of the plates has faded and some people were putting gold polish over them. He said that the Purohits are claiming that brass was used instead of Gold in Kedarnath. Gogi said that initially BJP leaders termed the allegations as baseless but now the cabinet minister is talking about investigating the case which suggests that the government is in quandary on the issue.
Gogi demanded that the allegation of the Purohits should be investigated and it should be monitored by a sitting judge of the high court.
