Dehradun police on Sunday arrested the father from Lucknow Railway station who allegedly killed his two minor daughters on Friday. The accused Jitendra Sahni (24), a Bihar native and current resident of Keshavpuri Basti in Doiwala, strangled his daughters- 3.5 years old Anchal and 1.5 years old Anusha because he reportedly wanted to pave the way for his second marriage. His wife and mother of the victims was reportedly having an affair with another man and had not returned from Hyderabad for the past two months. He wanted to remarry but was having difficulties as his daughters lived with him.
The accused claimed that he had reportedly warned his wife and mother-in-law multiple times to take both girls with them or he will kill them but they never listened to him so he finally killed his daughters on Friday and escaped, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar. He said that the police started the probe soon after getting information about the murders on Friday. He said that the police teams analysed CCTV footage and identified the accused. He said that the police also received information on Saturday that accused Jitendra had boarded Janta Express from Doiwala to go to his native village in Bihar.
On getting the information, the teams immediately started chasing the Janta Express via road with their vehicles. One team chasing the train succeeded in boarding it at the Moradabad railway station while the other team continued to follow the train by road. He said that the police checked the accused on the train but could not find him at that time. The second team reached the Charbagh Lucknow railway station after which they started searching for the accused. He was trying to escape by taking advantage of the heavy crowd but the police nabbed him, added SSP. He said that the accused confessed to killing his daughters because they were becoming an obstacle in his attempt to get remarried. The police are looking into his criminal history and will present him to court soon, added Kunwar.
