A day after the Tehri fistrict magistrate Dr Saurabh Gaharwar was transferred to Rudraprayag district as the DM, speculation has been running rife over his possible resignation. Significantly, he gave the farewell ceremony meant for him in the Collectorate in New Tehri a slip, intensifying further the speculation over his intention to resign by way of articulating his displeasure over his sudden transfer. Those privy to the development said that Dr Gaharwar had not been receiving calls since the transfer order was announced. He was said to have expressed his desire to quit long before the transfer order was announced.
It is further learnt that two senior State government officers-the secretary to the chief minister and Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey and the vice chairman of Haridwar-Roorkee Development Authority Ashsul Singh- went to his residence and held a closed door meeting with him talked to him for a long time in a closed room. As per information received, the two officers made efforts to mollify him. Notably, Dr Saurabh Gaharwar assumed the charge as the DM of Tehri on July 14 last year.
Being a celebrated radiologist, he would conduct ultrasound in different medical facilities on Sunday which is his day-off.
Interestingly, he was shunted out of Tehri as DM just after the successfully conducted G-20 meetings in the district under his direct supervision.
