Congress nervous by public response on UCC: Bhatt

The president of Uttarakhand BJP Mahendra Bhatt has said that the Congress party has got afraid of the huge public response being received by the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and it is now trying to move ahead on its policy of appeasement. In a statement, he said that the Congress party is trying to spread confusion in the society on UCC.

Taking a dig at the apprehensions being raised by the Congress leaders, Bhatt said that they would get the answers of their apprehension during the discussions in the assembly on the UCC. He said that upset by the positive public response the UCC is eliciting, the Congress party is now expressing apprehension on its consequence on UCC.

Bhatt said that the Congress party need not worry about the social and economic reservations as the draft of the UCC is not associated with reservation. He said that the expert committee on UCC has already made it clear that it has held hundreds of meetings with different stakeholders of the society and groups. Bhatt said that UCC would focus on inheritance rights, marriage laws, women rights and social evils.

 He said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the draft of the UCC bill would be placed in the assembly soon. Bhatt said that the intricacies would become clear when the UCC would be tabled.
