The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) will organise an online consultation programme on child sexual abuse on July 10 in Dehradun. The SCPCR chairperson, Geeta Khanna informed this and added that the officers of the police department, the department of women empowerment and child development and the education department aside from the representatives of some educational institutions would participate in the programme.
She said that the alarming trend of child pornography having become the fastest growing internet activity leading to spiralling child abuse cases in the State would be addressed during the programme. “The present distressing scenario had forced the commission to hold the consultation programme which will include a panel discussion on the challenges and on how to prevent child sexual abuse cases. The commission will direct the departments concerned to appropriately take on the challenge of stopping the online child sexual abuse. At the same time, the rehabilitation process for the victims of child sexual abuse would figure in the online programme,” she said.
When asked to spell out the principal objective of the programme, Khanna said that it is meant to raise collective awareness about the enormously negative impacts of child pornography available online.
She added that the commission had recently organised a workshop in Dehradun on ways of preventing child labour and child begging.
