A guide Sanjay Singh Rana (25) accompanying a mountaineering group of 25 members was killed in an avalanche during an expedition to Mount Bhagirathi-2 located in the Gangotri National Park area of Uttarkashi district.
The officials said that the body was brought to Nandanvan late on Wednesday and 12 people left Gangotri Dham on Thursday to bring the body back. They said that a 25-member team including eight tourists went for a mountaineering expedition to Bhagirathi-2 peak (6,512 metres) on June 24. Out of 25 members, 11 members returned from the Nandanvan base camp to Gangotri while the remaining continued their journey to the Bhagirathi-2 base camp.
While returning back after the successful expedition on Tuesday, an avalanche reportedly hit the area in which a guide lost his life. The officials said that the body was brought to the Nandanvan base camp by his fellow trekkers and a team of 12 people was sent on Thursday to bring the body back to Gangotri.
