The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the petitioner and Vidhan Sabha secretariat to identify the number of appointments made from 2000 to 2021 under the tenure of successive speakers in Vidhan Sabha secretariat and present a year-wise report along with an affidavit in the court in three weeks. The division bench of chief justice Vipin Sanghi and justice Alok Kumar Verma issued this order while hearing a public interest litigation filed against the appointments made in the Assembly secretariat in violation of norms. The matter will be taken up for hearing next on August 4.
Dehradun resident Abhinav Thapar had filed the PIL against backdoor appointments in violation of rules in the Vidhan Sabha secretariat. The petitioner has stated that a committee was formed and the appointments made after 2016 were terminated but not the appointments made before this period. He has contended that irregularities in appointments in the Assembly secretariat have been going on since 2000 till the present. Thapar has requested that a probe under a sitting HC judge be ordered against the influential persons involved in these appointments made in violation of rules and that action be taken against them.
