The Pauri district police arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a minor a day after the crime was allegedly committed in Kotdwar on Wednesday. The police produced the accused in the court and the court sent him to jail.
According to the police officers, a woman lodged the first information report in police Kotwali, Kotdwar on Tuesday, alleging that one Mohan Singh Saini had sexually assaulted her minor sister and then threatened to kill her if she disclosed what had happened to her to anyone else.
Subsequently, the police registered a case against the accused under sections 323, 506 and 354 of the Indian Penal Code and section 7/8 of the POCSO Act.
It is pertinent to mention that taking cognizance of the case, the district senior superintendent of police Shweta Choubey had instructed the in-charge inspector of Kotwali, Kotdwar to constitute a team to nab the accused at the earliest. While acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the 52-year-old accused near Devi Mandir in Kotdwar in 24 hours since the crime was committed.
