Heavy rains cause damage in various parts of Uttarkashi

Heavy rainfall caused considerable damage in Dhauntri, Badkot and Purola areas of Uttarkashi district on Friday night. No loss of life was reported though a number of buildings and vehicles were damaged due to debris. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, debris and water entered about eight homes in Dhauntri following heavy rains and landslide. The wall of the primary health centre was also damaged. In Badkot, considerable quantity of debris on a 30 metre stretch of the national highway at Gangnani affected one Ashram, some hotels and upto eight parked vehicles which got stuck in the debris. In Purola, some residential homes are at risk following erosion.
The sub divisional magistrate, Nayab Tehsildar, Revenue department team, State Disaster Response Force, Fire service, police and other officials concerned reached the site to assess the damage. During the morning, the Rishikesh-Yamunotri national highway was blocked at Dharasu, Chatanga, Dabarkot, Ranachatti and other spots due to debris/boulders. Three main district roads and 16 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the district. In Tehri district, one car fell upto 20 feet off the road on the Lambgaon-Onalgaon motor road near Mulyagaon resulted in the death of the sole occupant. The Tyuni-Chakrata-Mussoorie-Tehri national highway 707A was blocked by debris in addition to two State highways, two main district roads and 15 rural motor roads.
In Chamoli district the Karnprayag-Gairsain national highway was washed out near Kalimati while four State highways, one main district road, six other district roads and 44 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the district. Four rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the Almora district while one national highway, two State highways and seven rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Nainital district. Similarly, in the Haridwar district one State highway and eight rural motor roads were reported to be blocked. In the Rudraprayag district, the Rishikesh-Kedarnath national highway was blocked by debris/boulders at Saudi and Fata while four State highways and 26 rural motor roads were also reported to be blocked in the district. In Dehradun district, the national highway 707 stretch from Faidil to Sainal was closed to traffic due to excessive slip while NH 707 A was blocked by debris near Kempty Bazaar.
Two national highways, five State highways and one main road along with 53 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the district. One main district road, six rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Bageshwar district while three State highways, two main district roads, one other road and 37 rural motor roads were reported blocked in Pauri district. The Tanakpur-Champawat-Ghat national highway was blocked by debris/boulders at Dhaun, Swala, Chalthi and Ghat while two State highways, two main district roads and 10 rural motor roads were also reported to be blocked in the district. Four border roads, one State highway and 16 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the Pithoragarh district.
