Drug peddler held in Kotdwar with smack

Thursday, 27 July 2023 | PNS | PAURI

Kotdwar police arrested a drug peddler identified as Shahid with 4.80 grams of smack on Wednesday while conducting a checking drive in its jurisdictional limits. Subsequently, police registered a case against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.  Earlier, last week, a police team had nabbed three drug peddlers and seized 15.59 grams of smack.

It is pertinent to mention here that the senior superintendent of police Pauri district Shweta Choubey had stressed on relentless checking drives being conducted by police across the district to ensure that the State becomes drug-free by 2025. Acting on the directive given by the district police top brass, a team was constituted under the supervision of the deputy superintendent of police (Operation) Kotdwar and the in- charge of CIU Kotdwar.

Police informed that the accused drug peddler Shahid has told the police during interrogation that he had purchased the smack in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, though he declined to name the person who had allegedly sold him the contraband.

Despite the mass awareness drive and the strict vigilance by the police, the contraband smuggling menace continues in Kotdwar.  According to police, most of the alleged drug peddlers recently arrested by them are youngsters.    Last Thursday, the police team arrested Nitin (19) with 5.04 grams of smack, Satyam (22) with 5.06 grams of smack and Ankit (22) with 5.49 grams of smack during the checking drive in Kotdwar.
