In latest Uttarakhand news, the expert committee constituted by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to study the renowned hill station Mussoorie’s carrying capacity has recommended to the State government to ensure that the number of tourists and construction activities are regulated immediately. Besides, it suggests that the tourists should be charged and the sums to be collected thus from them should be utilized in waste management and cleanliness works. Further the committee recommends spring rejuvenation and rain water harvesting to meet the water deficit which assumes serious proportions when the tourism season is at its peak. As per the NGT report, the number of tourists visiting this hill station has seen a huge spike. While the figure stood at eight lakh in 2000 it surged to 30 lakh in 2019, the report said.
