Traders plant trees to control landslide spree

Monday, 31 JULY 2023 | PNS | NAINITAL

In latest Uttarakhand news, with rain-induced landslides wreaking havoc in Nainital, the traders have taken recourse to the long-running tradition of tree plantation in the town to stop land erosion. Notably, the area around the Bhowali Road, including the hill a part of which recently collapsed, has turned a chronic landslide zone. The traders who have bearing the brunt of the non-stop landslides along with common people embarked on extensive tree plantation drives in this vulnerable area. Speaking on the plantation drives, the general secretary of the traders’ association in Tallital Amandeeep Singh said that with the area around Bhowali Road witnessing series of landslides this monsoon, blocking roads and disrupting traffic, they had taken up the extensive plantation initiatives in collaboration with Aquatic Adventure Sports Organisation. The saplings of several trees, including Chinar and Walnut, were planted during the drive, added Singh.
