Strong opposition by local residents forced the owner of a licensed liquor shop to close down the outlet a day after it was opened at Hatwalgaon in the Dhanaulti area. A new licensed liquor shop opened in Hatwalgaon on Monday.
On Tuesday morning, residents of various villages in the area reached the shop in considerable numbers to protest. They said that opening of the liquor shop will encourage substance abuse among the local youths. They said that the Gram Panchayat was not informed about the opening of this shop. Dhanaulti Tehsildar RP Mamgain reached the site with police.
The villagers maintained their demand for closure of the liquor shop. They said that opening of the liquor shop in the village will threaten the future of the youths. The Tehsildar said that considering the protest by the locals, the owner of the shop had decided to shut it down.
