In latest Uttarakhand news, the BJP president Mahendra Bhatt said that a panel comprising three names as possible party candidates for the Bageshwar Assembly by-election slated on September 5 has been sent to the party’s central parliamentary board. The by-poll is being held as it fell vacant following the death of the incumbent MLA and State cabinet minister Chandan Ram Dass in April this year. Bhatt said that his party has been preparing for this by-election for the past two months. “We have assessed the strength of the party at the booth levels and organised party programmes attended by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Besides, the State party leaders, assigned with the task, stayed in the constituency area to further strengthen the party bases there,” he said.
Notably, following the meeting between the State party chief and the CM, the three- name panel was given seal of approval. Bhatt exuded confidence that his party would win the seat again in the by-election with a record margin.
It is learnt from the State BJP sources privy to the development that two of the three names included in the panel are relatives of the deceased Chandan Ram Das, including his widow. Sources further said that the party brass might finally chosse the widow of the deceased minister to electorally exploit the sympathy wave to the fullest extent.
