Monday, 14 AUGUST 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will run a major cleanliness campaign four times a week in association with non-governmental organisations to improve the level of sanitation in the city. The campaign will mainly focus on making locals aware of the importance of segregating garbage before its disposal and how it can resolve several sanitation related issues in the city, said the municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal. He has directed the sanitation section to make arrangements to conduct these massive campaigns regularly in the city. He has directed the officials to invite Expression of Interest (EOI) within seven days from interested NGOs who want to work in association with MCD in conducting massive cleanliness drives. He has asked to fix an allowance to be paid to the selected NGOs. A special team of the municipal corporation should also be deployed under the leadership of sanitation inspectors to work with NGOs or voluntary organisations like the National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) in the campaign. Goyal directed the sanitation section to make suitable arrangements to provide equipment like gloves, brooms, shovels and tractor trolleys among others which will be used during the campaign by sanitation workers and organisations. He said that the main aim of the campaign is to raise awareness among locals about the importance of segregation before disposing of garbage. The campaign is expected to commence in the city by the end of this month.
