2 killed in house collapse in Chamoli

Two people lost their lives while two others sustained serious injuries after a two-storey house collapsed in Helang village of Joshimath in Chamoli district late on Tuesday night. According to the officials, the incident occurred in Helang village on the Badrinath highway between Pipalkoti and Joshimath. The officials said that the rescue teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were called to the spot in the wee hours of Wednesday when a two-storey house built near a crusher unit on the banks of the Alaknanda River had collapsed as some locals were trapped under the debris. The SDRF team reached the spot to find four people buried under the debris of the collapsed house. The officials said that seven people were present in the house when the incident took place. The team rescued three people identified as Bharat Singh Negi (46), Manish Panwar (27) and Hukum Bahadur (55) who were rushed to a nearby hospital while a victim Anmol (19) died on the spot. Another victim identified as Prince (21) died during the treatment on Wednesday. The officials said that the victim’s mortals were handed over to the district police. The health of hospitalised victims was critical on Wednesday.
