With the countdown having begun for the soft landing of the lander module (LM) of Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar surface, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists announced that prior to the spacecraft’s scheduled touchdown at the hitherto untouched southern pole of the moon on August 23, all its systems have been operating sans any complications.
According to ISRO, the LM Vikram with rover Pragyan seated in its belly is expected to touch down on the lunar surface at around 6.04 pm on August 23. The space scientists further said that the historic landing event will be telecast live from at 5.20 pm on that day. ISRO released images of the far side areas of the moon a day after Russia’s Luna-25 spacecraft crashed into the moon after it spinned out of control, thwarting for the time being Russia’s space ambitions.
