The Transport department on Tuesday started the verification process of e-rickshaws at Parade Ground along with traffic police to prevent their unrestrained operation in Dehradun, said the regional transport office (administration) Sunil Sharma.
He said that over 300 operators arrived with their e-rickshaws for the verification and were also made aware of all information regarding their operation. “We also told them about what documents they need to legally operate in the designated areas and how they can get them. Besides this, we also made them aware of the rules under Motor Vehicles Act as per which they can be penalised for traffic violations and illegal operation,” said the RTO.
He said that though the department is taking action against violations, officials wanted to raise awareness among the e-rickshaws operators before imposing hefty fines on them. He said that the camp will be organised from 10 AM to 5 PM at Parade Ground on weekdays.
