A tree plantation programme under Meri Maati Mera Desh campaign was held at the Uttarakhand Council for Biotechnology (UCB) at Haldi, Pantnagar on Tuesday during which the vice-chancellor of the G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Manmohan Singh Chauhan planted saplings.
According to the UCB director Sanjay Kumar, 40 Plumeria (Champa) saplings and 40 palm saplings were planted on the occasion. Kumar said that the Champa plant is not just known for its fragrance but it is endowed with numerous medicinal properties, adding that its use is beneficial in curing fever while the palm is appreciated for its beauty.
In his address, Chauhan said that tree plantation is an effective means of making the earth green for the coming generations and added that with trees helping humanity in numerous ways, everyone should enthusiastically participate in tree plantation drives.
