Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the complete assessment of the loss caused to the crops by the recent spell of heavy rains in different parts of the State is being done by the government. The State government will also send a letter to the Union government informing about the loss caused by the heavy rains. This assurance was given by the CM to a delegation of farmers led by the president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Sanjeev Tomar at his camp office on Friday. The delegation informed the CM about the problems of the farmers. Tomar said that the waterlogging following heavy rains in Haridwar district had resulted in large-scale damage to crops. He said that some farmers have not yet received compensation from the government. The delegation requested the CM that a complete assessment of the damage should be done and the farmers should be compensated accordingly. The CM assured the delegation that compensation will also be provided soon to the people who have not received it yet.
Dhami said that the State government is keeping the interests of the people in mind. He said a team of the Union government has already done a preliminary assessment of the damage caused by the heavy rains. The CM said that many schemes for welfare of farmers are being undertaken by the State and Union governments. Work on the millet mission is being done at a fast pace. The State government is also promoting organic farming in Uttarakhand.
The principal secretary R K Sudhanshu, secretaries Vijay Kumar Yadav and Deependra Kumar Chaudhary were present on the occasion. The BKU delegation included Panwan Tyagi, Ajab Singh, Sandeep Chauhan and Vikesh Baliyan.
