In latest Uttarakhand news, Vigilance sleuths arrested from Nainital a state tax officer and a data entry operator-posted at the State tax department- on the charge of taking bribes. The two officers were allegedly demanding bribe in lieu of GST registration in the State tax department. It is further learnt that the duo was demanding Rs 3000 for clearing each file. Perturbed over the bribery demand, a Bhimtal resident Manoj Joshi registered a complaint, alleging bribery malpractice going on in the GST registration office. He further alleged in his complaint that his registration-related file had been held up due to his refusal to pay the bribery amount. Following a preliminary probe, a Vigilance team was constituted and it carried out a trap operation to catch the accused red-handed. During the operation, the data entry operator was caught while taking the bribe amount. Later, it was revealed that a State tax officer was also involved in the bribery incidents and he was arrested too. The SP Vigilance, Haldwani Prahlad Meena said that after the duo was arrested, search operations were being conducted in their residences in Haldwani.
