The chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW), Kusum Kandwal said on Wednesday that providing maternity leaves to the women working under the outsourcing agencies in different departments of State government is a commendable gesture in support of motherhood.
While praising the announcement made by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday, she said that she had earlier written to the CM, urging him to grant maternity leaves to all women employed either directly in the State government departments or through outsourcing. “The CM responded positively to my proposal and assured that efforts would be made to provide maternity leave to all women employees either working in the departments or working through outsourcing during the period of their pregnancy,” she said and added that this approval on the part of the CM would address the challenges being faced by the working women during the difficult time of their pregnancy.
She further said that the CM’s approval for the proposal put by USCW amounts to a celebration of mother power.
