U’khand attracts Rs 7.6k crore potential investment in global investors summit curtain raiser

ITC presented a proposal for Rs 5,000 crore investment in Uttarakhand to the State government during the curtain raiser for the global investors summit held in the national capital on Thursday. Further, memorandum of understanding for investment worth Rs 1,000 crore was signed with Mahindra Holidays and Resort India Limited and worth Rs 1,600 crore with E-Kuber. Mahindra Holidays and Resort India Limited is planning to invest Rs 1,000 crore during the next three months and set up four to five resorts in various locations in the State. This will also generate employment opportunities for 1,500 people. This is the largest investment of the company anywhere in State so far.

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was the chief guest at the curtain raiser organised at a hotel in New Delhi. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Dhami said that the Uttarakhand said that the Uttarakhand global investors summit-2023 is slated to be held in Dehradun during December. He said that Uttarakhand is swiftly emerging as a young State with immense scope for industries. The State has ease of doing business and peace of doing business. The instances of labour dissatisfaction in the industries operation in Uttarakhand are negligible. The CM said that the government is working on the vision of developing world-class basic infrastructure along with convenience commercial atmosphere. Special policies have been implemented to encourage investment in various sectors and attractive fincncial incentives have also been facilitated. The prominent policies include the tourism policy, MSME policy, startup policy, logistics policy and policy for establishment of private industrial estates. He said that the State government is committed to develop Uttarakhand as one of the fastest growing economies of the nation. The Sashakt Uttarakhand mission launched to strengthen the State’s economy aims to double the SGDP in the next five years. The global investors summit is one of the steps being taken by the government to meet this target, he said. The CM further said that 1,200 Acts have been identified in the State which are not useful now and about 500 of these acts are being repealed through the Single Repeal Act. A land bank of about 6,000 acres is presently available in the State for various types of industries. Rail, road and air connectivity are being improved consistently in the State. Directs flights to various cities are available from the Dehradun airport. The Dehradun and Pantnagar airports are also being expanded, he added.Dhami said, “Industrialists of the State are our brand ambassadors and they have a major role in increasing investment in the State. Effective steps have been taken for establishment of aroma park in Kashipur, plastic park in Sitarganj, industrial manufacturing cluster in Kashipur and the Amritsar-Kolkata industrial corridor, said the CM.

The State’s chief secretary SS Sandhu said that Uttarakhand is a better destination for investment. Referring to proximity to Delhi-NCR, he said that with development this distance will be shortened soon to two and a half hours by road. Similarly, road facilities will shorten the distance to other cities including Haridwar, Kotdwar, Rudrapur, Kashipur and Tanakpur, he added.

Additional chief secretary Radha Raturi said that Uttarakhand had prepared its policy after studying the industrial and investment policies of various States. The government is focusing on policies conducive to industries and facilities to ensure that as many industries as possible are established in the State, she said.

It is pertinent to mention here that the State government is also planning to hold the first international road show for the global investors summit from September 25 to 28 in London. Dhami will also participate in this event. Similar events will be held during the first week of October in Singapore and Taiwan while road shows in Dubai and Abu Dhabi will be held from October 16 to 20.
