With the objective of promoting sports and supporting athletes, the State government has decided to increase the subsidy on the development of sports infrastructure. The Sports minister Rekha Arya said that following the direction of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the department will take every initiative necessary in the interests of the sportspersons in the State. She said that the subsidy which was earlier given on sports infrastructure development will now be increased in the State. About 70 per cent subsidy will be given for such works in the mountainous region and 50 per cent subsidy will be given in the plains for the development of sports facilities, she added. “The state government implemented the Sports Infrastructure Policy in the year 2016 to connect private investors to the field of sports infrastructure, but its benefits were not being received properly. Due to this the government has decided to increase the subsidy on the development of sports facilities, which will prove to be effective for the sports and players”, said Arya.
Commenting on the initiative taken by the government for sports players, Arya said, “The government is doing everything possible to promote sports. A scheme to give scholarships to the talented and emerging players of the State has been started. Apart from this, a new sports policy was brought for the promotion of sports and players, in which major provisions have been made so that Uttarakhand becomes a model in the field of sports. Today the daily food allowance of the players of Uttarakhand, which was earlier Rs 250, has been increased to Rs 480 per day per player as per the Sports Authority of India standards. The department will also provide an amount of Rs 2,000 per month to the youngsters aged between 14 to 23 years,” the minister said.
