The president of Uttarakhand Mahila Congress Jyoti Rautela has said that the Ankita Bhandari murder case maligned the image of the State. She said that capital punishment should be given to the murderers of Ankita Bhandari so that no one dares to commit such a crime in the future.

Rautela was addressing a conference at the headquarters of Uttarakhand Congress on Friday. The conference was organised to mark the foundation day of the Mahila Congress.

Rautela said that the law and order situation in the State is in shambles and crime against women is increasing under the rule of BJP which has given the slogan of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. Rautela said that the manner in which the evidence was destroyed in the resort of the BJP leader after murder of Bhandari shows that criminals are getting protection under BJP rule.

She said that on the one hand the district administration of Pauri is denying that the order for demolishing the resort by bulldozer was given by it and on the other hand the BJP government is patting its back after destroying the evidence. Rautela added that everyone involved in crime should be brought to book and for this the Congress party is consistently demanding that the case should be handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

She said that the Congress party has always made sacrifices in the freedom struggle. Remembering Annie Besant, Sarojini Naidu and Vijay Laxmi Pandit, the Congress leader said that the party will continue to move forward on their ideals.

Rautela said that the manner in which the democracy in the country is being shredded by the BJP is not good for the country. She said that the Mahila Congress will continue to fight on the issues of price rise, unemployment and crime against women.

The event was attended by a large number of Mahila Congress leaders and workers.
