The Pauri district magistrate Ashish Chauhan instructed the officers concerned to launch intense drives across the district to destroy hemp (bhang) farming, curb illegal mining and clamp down on preparing illegal homemade liquor while presiding over an administrative meeting in Pauri on Wednesday. He also expressed his annoyance over the absence of the transport department officers at the meeting and sought explanation.
The DM instructed the sub- divisional magistrate (SDM) Kotdwar and the mining trust officer to ensure that CCTV cameras are installed in suitable places in Kotdwar to stop illegal mining. He also directed the divisional forest officer (DFO) to order the forest rangers to trace the hemp (bhang) farming areas deep into the forest.
This aside, he asked the SDMs of Kotdwar and Yamkeshwar to hold inquiry into the figures of the fees as recorded on the district registrar and in case of discrepancies being found, to submit a report in three days.
