Prepare rehabilitation plan for landslide affected Pagno village: DM

The Chamoli district magistrate Himanshu Khurana visited the landslide affected Pagno village in Joshimath Tehsil and interacted with the villagers on Wednesday. He assured all possible assistance to the affected villagers.
During his visit Khurana checked the landslide occuring from the mountain above the village, the bebris which have landed in the village and the condition of homes damaged by the debris. He also visited the homes at risk and heard the problems of the villagers.
The district magistrate said that the geological survey has been done in the village. Responding to the demand of the villagers for rehabilitation, he told the Tehsil administration to prepare a work plan for the rehabilitation so that it can be done at the earliest after the required budget is released. The officials were also directed to repair paths in the village and to make proper arrangements for operation of the school. Khurana said that the authorities are keeping an eye on the landslide situation and that all possible assistance will be provided to the affected people. He said that for those who want to voluntarily live in rented accommodations nearby, the government will provide Rs 4,000 rent amount for six months.
It should be noted that the landslide has damaged the primary school, Anganwadi centre, forest chowki and two cowshed in Pagno. The authorities had earlier shifted nine families to safer locations while some families shifted on their own. The primary school and Anganwadi centre have been shifted to the junior high school. Due to the consistent landslide in Pagno, the villagers are demanding that they should rehabilitated to a safe location.
