With the objective of providing financial assistance to underprivileged students, the Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) has launched an ‘earn while learn scheme’ in Dehradun. Commencing in the academic session of 2023-24, this scheme will offer UTU students the opportunity to earn while studying.
Commenting about the new initiative, UTU vice chancellor Onkar Singh said that as per the university’s guidelines, alumni who are members of the UTU Alumni Association will be solicited as voluntary counsellors under the scheme. These counsellors will guide and support students in various areas, in accordance with the scheme’s objectives. Apart from this, they will play a crucial role in motivating students to fulfill their responsibilities and provide advice on moulding their future according to their individual needs, abilities and skills, he added.
He further added that within this programme, students have the opportunity to access software development services at a rate of Rs 250 per hour, with a maximum limit of three hours per day and a monthly cap of Rs 12,000. Teaching assistants who are PhD researchers are eligible for a rate of Rs 500 per hour, with the same cap of Rs 12,000 per month. For other tasks, the rate is Rs 100 per hour, with a capped limit of Rs 6,000 per month, he added.
“Students enrolled in the university will be able to earn as well as access of knowledge of shelving, arrangement, display of books in library, issuing and receiving books from library and other aspects along with assistance in office administration like data handling, data preparation, filing work and data feeding under this scheme,” said Singh.
