In latest news from Dehradun, the State agriculture and rural development minister Ganesh Joshi chaired a review meeting with the department officers at his camp office during which the State government’s Apple Mission figured. He collected inputs from the officers about the prospects of large-scale apple cultivation and stressed on the immense prospects Uttarakhand has in the realm of intensive horticulture. He said that the State government has set aside Rs 809 crore as budgetary allocation to increase the sale volume of apple from Rs 200 crore to Rs 2000 crore in the coming eight years through high- density apple farming. Joshi further said that the primary mission of the State government is to boost high-quality apple farming and added that they had formulated apple production policy with the suggestions of the apple growers. The minister further said that to encourage high-density apple farming, 500 orchards would come up across the State.
