Conduct campaign against adulteration in festive season: Rawat

The State Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) will undertake a massive campaign to prevent adulteration in the food products during the upcoming festive season. The Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat chaired a review meeting of the department at his office in Vidhan Sabha on Saturday. In the meeting he said that the department should be on an alert mode to prevent adulteration in the food products in the festive season. He said that supply of illegal and adulterated food materials and milk products occur from the neighbouring States during the festive season which should be prevented by undertaking an extensive drive in the border areas. Rawat added that the department should collect samples of the food products on a large scale to check adulteration. He said that the department should undertake a massive campaign to make the people aware about the adulterated food products. He also ordered the department officers to ensure that the toll free number for registering complaints of adulterated food and those engaged in adulteration is operational round the clock.  

The officers told the minister that the department has undertaken a campaign against adulteration under which 1,506 samples have been collected from January 2023 to September 2023. A total of 207 samples were found to be below standards and legal proceedings have been initiated.

The Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar, DIG P Renuka Devi, State drug controller Tajber Singh, deputy commissioner G C Kandwal, PC Joshi and others attended the meeting.
