U’khand farmers on 5-day study tour of Himachal Pradesh

The vehicle carrying a group of 13 farmers from the State was flagged off by the cooperatives additional registrar Ira Upreti on Thursday. The farmers left on a five-day visit to neighbouring Himachal Pradesh. The managing director of the provisional cooperative union Man Singh Saini was also present on the occasion. He said that on the first day (October 27) the farmers will visit the Dr YS Parmar university in Solan. On October 28 they will visit the regional horticulture research and training station at Shimla. Saini said that on October 29 the group of farmers will visit Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Shimla and also study the farming practices in the orchards of apple and kiwi.
He said that the second group of farmers will head to Gujarat on October 28 where they will visit the milk producing areas and study the modern practices employed by the farmers.
Expressing gratitude to the Cooperation minister Dhan Singh Rawat, the farmers said that for the first time they are being taken to such a study tour and expressed confidence that the tour will be fruitful.
In a recent review meeting of the department, Rawat had directed the officers that the progressive farmers of the
State should be sent to other states on study tours. He said that the State government is endeavouring to double the income of the farmers. On the orders of the minister the department is conducting the tour. The farmers will provide training to the other farmers after their return.
The cooperative department has selected two farmers from every district for these study tours. The selection of the farmers has been made by a selection committee headed by the district magistrate.
