Elephant mowed down by Kotdwar Ex

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the newly launched Anand Vihar (Delhi)-Kotdwar Express mowed down an elephant in the wee hours. The forest officials informed that since 2001, 23 jumbos have been killed in the State, crushed under the wheels of speeding trains and of them, 16 have been mowed down on the Dehradun-Haridwar-Dehradun tracks alone. It is learnt that the incident happened in the Kauria range of Najibabad forest division when the train was moving to Najibabad after reaching Kotdwar at 3.50 am. According to the forest officers, the elephant died on the spot. Earlier, a tusker was crushed under the wheels of speeding Upasana Express near Sitapur fatak on Haridwar-Laksar railway tracks.
