In a broad daylight heist in Dehradun on Thursday, a gang robbed the Reliance Jewels showroom located on Rajpur Road when the police were busy managing security arrangements for the State Foundation Day programme presided over by President Droupadi Murmu. The gang allegedly robbed jewellery worth about Rs 10 crore after entering the showroom as customers and taking employees hostages at gunpoint. The gang included four to five members who reportedly committed the whole robbery in 10 minutes. According to official sources, the robbers locked the employees in a small room and tied their hands before robbing the showroom. This incident happened in the morning and the police reportedly came to know about the robbery around noon. Many are considering the robbery to be a major embarrassment for Dehradun police as the heist was committed in broad daylight in a prominent store located in one of the busiest routes of the city. The incident has raised many questions as the store is about a kilometre from the police headquarters and secretariat. Many also suspect that the gang committed the robbery with thorough planning as the jewellery store had a stock of new jewellery ahead of Dhanteras and the police were also busy with the security arrangements in view of the President’s presence in Dehradun.
