Cooperatives can usher in social & economic change in villages: Rawat

The Cooperation minister Dhan Singh Rawat has said that cooperatives is one such medium which has the potential to bring in social and economic change in the rural areas. The minister took a review meeting of the department at Vidhan Sabha on Friday.
He said that the election of the cooperative committees will be held on time. In the meeting the minister directed the officers to make two lakh new members of the cooperative committees which currently have 12 lakh members in the State. He said that the membership campaign should continue in the month of November. Rawat informed that a Chintan Shivir on cooperatives will be held in the month of February next year in Haridwar in which future plans and policies will be formulated. He said that the government intends to double the income of farmers.
In the meeting the minister directed to achieve 100 per cent target under the One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme of Multipurpose Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (MPACS). The minister was informed that under the scheme a sum of Rs 17.23 crore has been deposited from 6,778 people who are relatives of the deceased loan borrowers.
Rawat said that the department should continue giving loans to the farmers at zero per cent interest rate under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Kisan Kalyan Yojana. Under the scheme the department has disbursed loans of Rs 4,835.34 crore to 8,55,579 farmers from the year 2017 to 2023.
The registrar of cooperative societies Alok Kumar Pandey, additional registrar Anand Shukla, managing director of the State cooperative bank Neeraj Belwal, MD of Uttarakhand cooperative federation Ramindri Mandarwal and others were present in the meeting.
