Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni along with his wife Sakshi Dhoni and some friends reached his native village Lwali in Almora district on Wednesday morning. The star cricketer is visiting the village after a gap of 20 years.

Dhoni and his friends were given a warm welcome in the village. Several villagers also arrived to meet him as soon as the information about his arrival spread across the village. According to the locals, Dhoni came to the village to worship his Kul Devi and offered prayers in Harjyu temple in the village along with his wife. After offering prayers, he reached his ancestral home with his wife and some villagers. The village head Dinesh Singh Dhoni said that Dhoni and his wife Sakshi reached the village around 11 AM on Wednesday after which he directly went to offer prayers in the temple. He said that Dhoni came to his village after 20 years. He claimed that he had earlier visited the village in 2003 when he was not a star sportsman and not many knew about him in the village but now every child recognises him. He said that when villagers came to meet him, he politely interacted with them and clicked selfies with young people. He also offered prayers at another temple of the village as well.

Dhoni along with his wife had reached Pantnagar Airport in Udham Singh Nagar district on Tuesday evening. He went to Nainital from there. According to the sources, Dhoni and Sakshi went to visit the Kainchi Dham as Sakshi is a devotee of Baba Neebh Karouri Maharaj. It is being speculated that both of them have come here to celebrate Sakshi’s birthday week because on Tuesday evening she shared a picture of mountains on social media with the caption that her birthday week has started. Her birthday falls on November 19 but there is no official confirmation of their plans in the State.
