In latest news from Uttarakhand, with the nation being kept on tenterhooks, the multi-agency rescue operation is said to be a few meters away from the workers remaining trapped in a collapsed tunnel at Silkyara since November 12. If the senior officials engaged in the rescue effort are to be believed, they are most likely to step out of the tunnel by this evening. The former advisor to the Prime Minister Bhaskar Khulbe also sounded hopeful that the prolonged rescue operation, beset with recurring hurdles, may come to a triumphant end by this evening. Sharing details, he said that they had been working on two fronts simultaneously-stabilising the platform on which the American auger machine is mounted and removing metallic structures from the pipe being drilled into the rubble to provide an escape route for the stranded workers. According to Khulbe, the first task was completed and the second one was nearing completion. He further said that as per the study made by ground penetration radar, no other metallic structure was found for five meters ahead in the tunnel and if the auger drilling work resumed the rescuers would reach the trapped workers soon. Meanwhile, AIIMS Rishikesh administration said that the premier health facility of the State is fully prepared for any medical emergency after the trapped workers are evacuated.
