Maharaj stresses exposure visits, solar lights for villages

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the State rural construction and panchayat raj minister Satpal Maharaj while attending the quarterly meeting of the district panchayat in Haridwar directed the officers of the department to firm up plans for the exposure visits (panchayat representatives visiting panchayats of other States) of the district panchayat members. During the meeting, discussions were held on the formulation of District Panchayat Development Plan (DPDP) for 2024-25, empowerment of local panchayats with a budget of Rs 44.5 crore, exposure visit of members, sanitation operation of haats/ markets, identification of district panchayat land and preparation of action plan for its maximal utilisation. While averring that the Centre and the State government are going all-out to boost the income of panchayats and their empowerment as important instrument of participatory governance, the minister urged the panchayat officers to ensure that immovable assets like parking lots, marriage halls and shops are constructed under the ownership of the panchayats.
The members are learnt to have demanded an increase in the number of solar lights for rural areas and each member being provided with at least 10 solar lights responding to which Maharaj instructed the chief development officer to provide maximum solar lights to the district panchayat so that the problems being faced by people in remote areas are addressed. The minister also heard the complaints of the people’s representatives and asked the district officers to act on them on priority basis.
