The police have achieved yet another success by arresting one more accused in the Reliance Jewels showroom heist. The accused named Chandan Kumar alias Sujit (19), a resident of Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, had allegedly helped the robbers by providing them with vehicles to commit the robbery which was carried out on November 9. He was caught by the police on Sunday when he reportedly came to Dehradun to meet his other accomplices in jail. He had stayed with the other two accused Prince and Abhishek in the Selaqui area about two months before the robbery was committed, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. He said that police teams are consistently raiding other states to search for the wanted accused in the robbery case. He said that the police recently received confidential information about a man who made arrangements of the vehicle for the robbers in Dehradun.
Following this information, the police arrested Chandan Kumar from the Premnagar area on Sunday. The SSP further informed that Kumar was arrested on the basis of the information provided by the previously arrested accused Akbar. Singh said that Kumar told police during interrogation that his acquaintance Jalil Subhani told him about the robbery plan and asked him to arrange a car and two motorcycles for him after which the accused approached Akbar to arrange these vehicles.
To provide these vehicles to the robbers, Akbar stole a car from Agra and two bikes from Haryana and delivered these to the robbers before the heist. Kumar had been hiding for the past few weeks but arrived in Dehradun to meet his other accomplices on the directions of Subhani. He was arrested by the police on Sunday, said Singh. He said that the police are interrogating him and other arrested accused to gather more evidence in the case. The police have arrested a total of eight accused in the case so far and the remaining will be behind bars soon, the SSP added.
