The Dehradun police started acting on traffic violations, improper parking and temporary encroachments on roads using the hi-tech drone Flying Hawk on Friday. The police took action against five temporary encroachments after getting the information via drones. Besides this, the traffic control room also acted against 26 traffic violations and nine vehicles observed to be parked wrongly by the drones. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh also inspected the drone control room in the police office to monitor the actions taken by the officials through drones. Singh said that one sub inspector and two constables have been deployed in the drone control room who regularly monitor all the routes through drones and find out traffic violations, improper parking, temporary encroachments and other violations. Then they establish contact with the police control room and the respective police station post regarding the persons violating the rule to ensure effective action is taken against them. The deployed officials also take feedback on the action taken by the respective in-charge to understand the effectiveness of drones and police coordination. The SSP also asked the officials deployed there about their issues and asked the officials concerned to resolve them soon. He said that at present, these drones are monitoring main roads of the city like Chakrata Road, Shimla Bypass Road, Saharanpur Road, Haridwar Bypass Road, Rajpur Road and East Canal Road to enforce traffic rules at these locations. These cameras will also help monitor law and order during religious processions and rallies apart from keeping an eye on temporary encroachments that hinder traffic. He said that the police are currently observing how these drones can be more helpful to them and depending on their work, they will use more drones to cover more area of the district in the second phase of this initiative.
