After getting complaints from various parts of the Dehradun district regarding the absence of bonfires to provide relief from the cold to the people in need, the district magistrate Sonika on Friday ordered all municipal bodies to make suitable arrangements in their respective areas. Many people have been complaining that though the temperature has been going down considerably, the municipal bodies have not made sufficient arrangements for lighting bonfires in some parts of Mussoorie, Rishikesh and Dehradun.
Considering this, the DM has directed all the municipal officials concerned to mark all such places where bonfires are required. She has asked them to make suitable arrangements to light bonfires in all marked places for people, especially destitute and homeless. She asked them to monitor these arrangements and ensure bonfires are available on the severe cold winter nights.
Besides this, she also directed them to make suitable arrangements in Rain Baseras to ensure no person has to spend cold nights in the open in their respective municipal bodies. She said that cold waves with dropping temperatures can severely affect one’s health and officials should ensure that most people in need spend cold nights in Rain Baseras.
She stated that the administration will not tolerate any kind of negligence by the officials concerned of any municipal body as these are one of the crucial arrangements to protect the destitute and homeless from severe cold in winter. She also instructed all sub divisional magistrates to monitor these arrangements in their respective areas and take action accordingly.
