Two-day holiday declared in government schools due to increased leopard movement

The Pauri district magistrate Ashish Chauhan has declared a holiday in some government schools in Ekeshwar block on Monday and Tuesday due to leopard sightings in the area. The Forest department has stepped up patrolling for the safety of the public and is undertaking other measures in an attempt to trap the leopard.The order issued by Chauhan on Sunday states that in a letter written by the Ekeshwar block education officer informs that leopard sightings have been reported near Janata inter college in Indirapuri, government primary school in Isoti, government primary school in Dayuld, government upper primary school in Dayuld, government primary school in Ghalla, government primary school in Mundiyap and government primary school in Pipli.
Further, leopard activity has also been reported in rural areas around the Isoti valley in Ekeshwar block. The Damdeval forest range officer has informed that the department has set a cage near Kota village to trap the leopard. The Forest department team is also patrolling the area. The block education officer has requested that a holiday be announced in the schools for the safety of the students where the leopard sightings are being reported. Considering this, the district magistrate has ordered a holiday in these schools and Anganwadi centres in the affected areas on December 18 and 19.
