Weather to take a turn, rain & snowfall likely in State today

The weather is likely to take a turn today with the long overdue rain and snowfall forecast in some parts of the State on Tuesday. The State meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at a few places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh districts and at isolated places in the remaining districts of the State today. Further, very light to light snowfall is likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 3,000 metres and above in the State today.
The meteorological centre has further forecast that the provisional State capital Dehradun is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky on Tuesday. Thunder cloud development/very light to light rain are likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 22 degrees Celsius and eight degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
It is pertinent to mention here that the State has not received adequate rain and snowfall during the winter so far. This has affected the weather and other activities including agriculture in various parts of the State. Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Monday were 22.6 degrees Celsius and 6.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 16.6 degrees Celsius and 8.5 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 12.4 degrees Celsius and 3.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 15.2 degrees Celsius and 3.4 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. The maximum temperature in Dehradun was three degrees above normal. The maximum and minimum temperatures were two degrees below and three degrees above normal respectively in Pantnagar. In Mukteshwar the maximum temperature was a degree above normal while the minimum temperature was two degrees above normal. The minimum temperature in New Tehri was one degree above normal on Monday.
