The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has completed the verification of sanitation workers working under Mohalla Swachhata Samiti in 82 wards to issue their salaries accordingly as per the order of Dehradun district magistrate and MCD administrator Sonika. The DM recently got complaints that the names of many sanitation workers registered in Mohalla Swachhata Samiti were allegedly fake but their salaries were issued by MCD. According to the complaints, most of the sanitation workers are appointed under the supervision of councillors of their respective wards and the salaries of these sanitation workers are issued after councillors verify that they have been actually working in their wards. However, the DM received complaints that MCD reportedly issued salaries for several such workers who actually never worked in any ward for about five years. The corporation is expected to have lost considerable money due to the alleged scam. Considering this, Sonika directed the MCD senior officials to investigate the matter and submit a report to her. She had also directed the corporation to manually verify all the names of sanitation workers registered in the Swachhata Samiti. Regarding the matter’s progress, the DM said, “I have directed the municipal commissioner and officials concerned to look into the matter and present a report to the administration. Besides this, the officials were also directed to issue salaries from now onwards only after verifying all the sanitation workers registered in the Swachhata Samiti. The MCD officials have completed the verification process in 82 wards and are expected to submit a report on the matter soon.”
