CM orders effective work plan for improving sanitation rankings of cities

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the administration that a concrete and effective plan for improvement in rankings of Dehradun, Rudrapur, Haldwani and Kotdwar in the Swachchh Survekshan should be prepared. Presiding over a high level meeting of the officers of the State administration at his residence on Saturday, the CM said that a comprehensive campaign for sanitation should be undertaken in the State. The order of the CM assumes significance in wake of the dismal rankings of the cities of the State in the recently released Swachchh Survekshan-2023. In the ranking the state witnessed a decline in its performance as compared to last year. 

In the meeting the CM directed that the best practices of other states in sanitation should be adopted in the State. He said that crores of pilgrims visit Uttarakhand every year and it should be ensured that they carry home a good message regarding sanitation here. Dhami said that beautification and infrastructure development works should be done continuously in the cities. He averred that the campaigns having public participation always get success and in the sanitation campaign assistance of general public and social organisations should be taken.

 Advocating book and not bouquet culture in the State, the CM said that books should be presented to the guests in different programmes. He directed that one library in every district and block should be set up. 

 The CM directed that the development authorities and the municipal bodies should work in coordination with the education department for encouraging sports and connecting the students with the anti-drug campaign.

 The CM said that the officers should ensure that food is not wasted in the government ceremonies and said that effort should be made to prevent wastage of food in the private programmes as well.

 The meeting was attended by additional chief secretary Radha Raturi, secretaries Shailesh Bagauli, Vinay Shankar Pandey, special secretary Parag Madhukar Dhakate , additional director general of police AP Anshuman, director general of education Banshidhar Tiwari and others.
