Cold day condition warning issued for 5 districts

Cold day conditions were experienced in Dehradun with the maximum temperature dropping six degrees below normal on Friday. Similar conditions were experienced in other locations in the plains in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. The cold is expected to intensify in some parts on Saturday with the State meteorological centre issuing an orange warning (Alert) regarding the possibility of dense fog likely to occur in some parts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts and cold day to severe cold day conditions likely to occur at many places in these two districts today.

The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of dense fog likely to occur in some parts in the plains of Dehradun, Pauri and Nainital districts and cold day to severe cold day condition likely to occur at isolated places in these districts. Ground frost is likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous regions of the State today. Apart from this, dry weather is likely to prevail in the districts of the State today. Moderate to dense fog is likely to occur in some parts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts and adjoining plains of Dehradun, Pauri and Nainital districts of Uttarakhand during the night/morning hours.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear sky with fog likely to occur. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 14 degrees Celsius and seven degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State o Friday were 12.9 degrees Celsius and 7.5 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 11.2 degrees Celsius and eight degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 13.4 degrees Celsius and one degree Celsius in Mukteshwar and 15.2 degrees Celsius and 2.5 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Dehradun witnessed a partially clear sky with sunlight making a brief appearance resulting in cold conditions during the day. Many were seen huddling around fires while others limited their outdoor movements due to the cold on Friday.
