In latest news from Uttarakhand, the tourism traders, tourists and the apple farmers are all happy with a sudden shift in the weather bringing rain and snow in the State which had been reeling under a freakishly dry winter. While it rained in the plains it snowed moderately to heavily in the higher reaches of the hills and as per the weather experts, this wet climate spawned by western disturbances would continue till February 4. Aside from the char dhams, the famed hill stations which recorded snowfall included Auli and Dhanaulti. With tourists again thronging the hill stations in hordes, the hoteliers and others directly or indirectly associated with the tourism trade look happy. Auli, the world renowned skiing destination, which had been grappling with drought, has sprung back into life with people swarming into it amidst heavy snowfall, reviving tottering winter tourism. The apple growers in Uttarkashi district are happy too, as the protracted dry winter was telling upon its growth. Meanwhile, in view of the rain and snow lashing the plains and the hills across Tehri, the district magistrate Mayur Dixit alerted the power department officials on potential disruption of supply and directed the PWD officers to dump salt and lime on the roads to keep the traffic flow normal.
