Assembly passes reservation bill for statehood activists

The Assembly unanimously passed the Uttarakhand Reservation in Government Service for the Identified Andolankari of Uttarakhand Movement and Their Dependents bill-2023 on Wednesday. The bill was handed over to the select committee in the last Assembly session.
The select committee was chaired by Parliamentary Affairs minister Prem Chand Agarwal and had Vikasnagar MLA Munna Singh Chauhan, Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli, Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, Manglaur MLA Mohammad Shahzad, Almora MLA Manoj Tiwari and Khatima MLA Bhuwan Kapdi as its members. The passage of the bill on Wednesday paves the way for 10 per cent reservation in government jobs to the Statehood activists.
The issue of reservation to Statehood activists has been hanging in balance for many years. Earlier a bill on the subject was returned by the governor. The statehood activists have not been getting the benefit of reservation in government jobs for the last 12 years. The statehood activists have been demanding that they and their dependents should be provided reservation in the state government jobs.
