Six more nabbed, 36 arrested so far for Haldwani riot

In the aftermath of the violent clashes in Haldwani’s Vanbhulpura area, the police arrested six more accused on Tuesday.  The police so far have apprehended a total of 36 accused in the case and a police post has been opened at the site freed from encroachment in Vanbhulpura, the senior superintendent of police of Nainital district Prahlad Narayan Meena said in a Press conference in Haldwani on Tuesday evening. He informed that the six accused have been identified as Shoaib (29), Bhola alias Sohail (28), Shahnawaz alias Sonu (26), Sameer Pasha (21), Junaid alias Ibrahim, and Sahil Ansari (19).

Meena said that the police recovered one pistol of 12 bore, three live cartridges and two shells from Pasha. Besides this, the police recovered one pistol of 315 bore and three live cartridges from Junaid. He said that several teams have been formed under the supervision of the superintendent of police of Haldwani Harbans Singh to nab all accused involved in the riot. The police were able to identify the culprits via CCTV footage and other evidence. The police arrested 36 accused in the case so far and recovered several illegal weapons and cartridges on the basis of this evidence. 

The SSP said that the police have also suspended the arms licenses of a total of 120 people in the Vanbhulpura area as per the DM order and have collected 41 weapons from locals. He also said that Nainital police established a police post on the cleared land within 24 hours of the announcement of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami that a police station will be constructed on the cleared land in the Vanbhulpura area which was illegally encroached upon earlier. The post was established to ensure effective security and law and order.

It was inaugurated by two female sub inspectors injured during the riot in the presence of the deputy inspector general of police of Kumaon Zone, Yogendra Singh Rawat.  “We have deployed one sub inspector and four constables at this post along with PAC and paramilitary security forces. We will also send a proposal for the construction of a police station at the said site to the government. In future, all government work will be carried out from this post,” Meena stated.
