Seven more arrested in connection with Haldwani riot

The police on Wednesday arrested seven more persons in connection with the Haldwani riot. The police have so far arrested 74 persons for their alleged role in the violence which took place on February 8. The Nainital senior superintendent of police Prahlad Narayan Meena said that the accused were arrested under two FIRs out of three FIRs registered against unknown culprits after the Vanbhulpura violence. The first FIR was registered against unknown accused who set the vehicles of police on fire. The second FIR was registered for attacking the employees of the local municipal body besides setting their equipment and articles on fire, he said.

The police have arrested three each in both cases after identifying them with the help of CCTV footage. The apprehended accused were also allegedly involved in stone pelting on police and other officials, claimed Meena. He said that the police are continuously working to arrest all culprits involved in the Vanbhulpura violence that took the lives of seven people, injured over 100 persons and led to property damage worth crores of rupees. Several teams are also searching for the wanted accused in nearby states. Besides this, the police have also attached the properties of nine accused including the alleged masterminds of the riot and wanted accused Abdul Malik and his son Abdul Moed.
