Six dead after car falls 500 metres down mountainside

Six persons including three members of a family died when the car they were travelling in fell about 500 metres down the road near the Aglad bridge on the Delhi-Yamunotri highway in the Nainbagh area of Tehri district. According to officials, the accident is believed to have occurred past midnight on Tuesday.
Nainbagh Tehsildar Rajendra Prasad Mamgain informed that a man and his sister in-law were taking his sick brother from Mori in Uttarkashi district to Dehradun for treatment. A total of six persons were travelling in an Alto car to Dehradun. Their family members in Mori were unable to contact them on the phone on Wednesday morning and then informed the police. The police started searching for the car and traced the last known location of one of the passenger’s mobile phone which led them to the car wreck early on Wednesday evening.
The police also informed the State Disaster Response Force team which reached the site along with necessary rescue equipment. According to officials, the driver of the car UK 07 9607 is believed to have lost control of the vehicle near the Aglad bridge. The vehicle fell about 500 metres down the mountainside the landed on the banks of the Yamuna river.
The SDRF team climbed down to the car wreck where it was ascertained that all the six persons in the car had died on the spot. The SDRF personnel recovered the bodies and brought them to the road where they were handed over to the police for post mortem. The dead have been identified as Pratap (30), his brother Rajpal (28), Rajpal’s wife Jashila (25), Virendra (28) and Vinod (35) all from Mautad village in Mori along with Munna (38) from Devti village in Mori.
